| Yesterday our little one had a Christmas party with her friends from the playgroups and children's gymnastics club. She apparently had a lot of fun there. The guests brought finger food for the party. As there were many guests with foreign background, we were surely lucky to have the opportunity to taste various exotic delicacies. There was something made of Bulgur that I especially like and I would like to try making them at home. Unfortunately I don't know what it is called and who brought it. The guests with Arabic background were mostly from another classes because their children are either older or younger than my child, so I didn't know who brought what. (Note: there are basically 3 age groups in our commune: 6 months to 1,5 yo; 1,5 to 3 yo; and 3 yo to 5). It tastes like vegetarian kebab but also like Texmex 😁. I brought bitterballen, an Indonesian style croquette which derived from Holland cuisine. I can share the recipe with you here: -400 g potatoes (waxy ==>> baked or steamed and then mashed) -1 chopped onions -2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped or grated -1/2 tsp pepper -1 tsp salt -1/2 tablespoon sugar -1 piece carrot, small diced (ca 3mm*3mm) -1 hand full cup sugar peas -1 stalk spring onions, chopped. -300 g cooked/steamed chicken, then finely chopped or hand pulled. -100 ml milk -2 tablespoons potato starch/corn starch Cooking guide: Lightly fry the onions, garlic and spring onions with 1 tablespoon of butter and then add the carrots, sugar peas and meat. Season them with pepper, salt and sugar. Finally, add the milk, mashed potatoes and starch to the pan. The oven should not be set too hot. The middle setting is completely sufficient. Stir and cook the dough until it is firm enough to make small balls. Dip the small balls in egg white and then roll them in breadcrumbs so that they are completely covered by the breadcrumbs. Finally fry the balls until they are light brown! That's all, simple isn't it? Lastly my little family would wish you and all your beloved persons a merry Christmas. |
