So here we are sort of moving out of the cold snap that we got going on.
Been a week straight of -35C to -40C. With wind chill it's dipped down to feeling like -45C to -55C.
Today it's begun to warm up just a wee bit with only feeling like -31C during the day.
Naturally we can't move through a cold snap without something going wrong.
Cue our cistern pipe freezing!
Our water had run out on one of the coldest days and the pipe taking in the water just so happened to freeze in the mere couple hours my husband wasn't able to put water in due being at work. So by the time he got water in it was done. Top it off it was so cold it froze all the water on the top.
Thankfully we have the water heaters for the cattle & the goats so we borrowed one for a little bit from the cattle and just pailed them water for the time being.
Took 2 days of attempting to crank the heat in the house after we finally got more oil, running a space heater against the cistern wall and having the water heater in the cistern but we finally got it unfrozen today.
Let me tell you that it didn't really bother me to pail water into the house for 2 days from the well, however I can now see why 10 kids then the parents shared the same bath.
It takes FOREVER to boil water on the stove. Ain't no one got time or the effort to re-boil new water every single bath for 10 people in a house hold.
Mad respect to those who do that full time. Hoping I can get there one day living in my dream hobbit hole out north by a lake but for now I'll take my running water as it is despite it's problems!
