A new week is upon us and we are grateful to see the light of the new day. It is time to rise and shine and here we are in the farm already.
We like going to the farm very early such that by midday we would have been done with work for the day and would be on our way home.

We left the house at about pass 6:am after a short morning prayer and we are here already. Due to the heavy downpour we had yesterday I decided to come down to the rice field first to check on the transplanted seedlings for any damage before we can proceed to our duty post for the day.

Whenever rice seedlings are transplanted, it takes about 7days before they start developing new roots to gets established in their new location. Any heavy downpour within that 7days timing can flush away seedlings that are yet to be rooted and established. These are the challenges we often face when trying to transplant rice in the month of September which if often the peak of rainfall.

The best periods for planting/transplanting seedlings still remains the months of June, July and August. Within these periods the rainfalls are usually just bearable and won't affect the plants much.
But even at that we can still experience a slight drought that can cause seedlings to dry.

Nothing about this weather is predictable anymore. This is the reason we have delayed transplanting as there was no rains in the month of July when we have wished to do this.

Not been able to predict the weather is affecting a lot of things here. Yet we plant and leave it to hope.

You can see the damages to the field. Some transplanted seedlings have been flushed way or gotten rotten in excess water leaving much gaps in the field. Sometimes only half of the field will be left to produce some food.

For the parts of the field where we have transplanted earlier, there can be no damage as the seedlings have adjusted and are doing quite well now.

Proper timing and good weather conditions is needed for planting any crop. The rains were pretty heavy and meanwhile the month of September is the leak of rainfall and even houses often get flooded during this times.
