Hi guys. Hope life is going good for you. Not really for me because now i have to make a choice that my life and generation depends on. Maybe you are in a position to make a decision that will either make or break you.

All my life, i've dreamed of being under the spot light. i've wanted to sing on stage, in studios, produce an album and work with other musicians like me. I've idolized Beyonce, Rihanna, Demi lovato and Adele. I've gone as far as practicing their comfortable and high notes. I've also wanted to star in movies. I've been part of drama groups in church and in my junior grade. I have stories i've written, song and poetry. I have clothes i've designed on plain sheets, i have a lot to offer, coming to the entertainment world. I've dreamed of helping the less privileged, giving back to the society, help new talents, encouraging people by helping them work their dream jobs. I cannot come to this world and be ordinary. I'm full of motivation. Just imagine me motivating kids when i'm old and they ask "why didn't you live your dream?" What will i tell them?
But then again, academically, i have never failed. In fact, i am the pride of my father. Once in jss1, i won a laptop from a drawing competition. I've won several competitions and even at sports. I used to run before but not anymore. I'm now a big girl, lol. I was and i graduated secondary school a science student, getting my A's in physics, chemistry, biology, geography, english and mathematics. How i managed to pass math, remains a wonder to me. I was head girl in a federal science and technical college, the first from Kogi state.
Now the problem is, i can either decide to study a six year course (medicine) or follow my dreams and become a star. Maybe as an artiste, or actress or even a model because height and shape are in check. I eat more than an average glutton and yet, nothing move. So, i'm probably stuck like this till i get married.
I see people living their dreams, showing the world what they are made of through their talent. I see them breaking through and breaking free and i'm so motivated to reach out and be who i really want to. Even my name here, KIVAR. I formed that from the movie lion king.

Yes, you know kovu and kiara right? i formed kivar from both; creative huh? Every time i watch Mufasa fall, i cry. I'm not a cry baby, it's just really....really dramatic. My point is, i'm confused. I'm presently not in the university or college. I'm running out of time and i have to make the right choice. Am i supposed to follow the medical line because it's safer to rely on (getting a degree) or follow my dreams? At the moment, i'm friends with a music producer who's working under sarz. And I have a one way ticket to going to PEFTI an acting and entertainment institute in Lagos.
If I had the chance, i'd run to a studio and sing my heart out, or show my acting skills. My father says i'm quite attractive and would have to earn my way up by sleeping with producers and managers and blah blah blah. My mother on the other hand is worried i'd become a bad girl and become a money fanatic and lose home training. They've both given me reasons to not follow this dream.
I'll study medicine for six years and save lives and live an ordinary life and be unable to help people because i earn a meager salary.
My main reason for bringing this out is because, i see a lot of people who study one thing and succeed in an entirely different area. My former math teacher is now a rapper. My dad is a director in the ministry of information and communication, but he'd rather be a musician. He actually writes music. My aunt studied pharmacy, but she's making her money through her bakery. Falz the bad guy has a law degree, but he's himself today through music. Some of our famous artistes don't even have a degree, but their net worth can buy more than five states in my country. Nigerians can relate. Some one goes to a studio and just says "skiborobo skibo! yeba osheeeeey baddest!" and earns more than a medical doctor.
Mean while, some people who are in the entertainment industry, or mass comm/English graduates don't have what it takes to draw attention. Some are better analysts than singers. My mother's best friend studied micro-biology, but today shes a teacher in a private school and the owner of a creche. She says, it's what she had always wanted to do.
Is education over rated? Are we supposed to follow our dreams and take risks or rely on education and get a degree and join the rat race life because it's safer?
