Sometimes I feel like querying our creator for giving us the freewill to choose how we live our lives but anytime I realise how important the usefulness of the brain He gave to us, I give Him applause for making it so. Where am I heading with this?
Do you know that there are still people who go on to marry partners that don’t have a compatible genotype, all because they believe that God will answer their prayers and change their genotype? Yes, there are many of them, and some churches are still supporting this belief in this modern age. These people go ahead with marriage and bring children with sickle cell anemia into this world to suffer and sometimes die at a young age. Meanwhile, we have the brain, the knowledge and the free will to prevent such situations from happening. I'm not saying God can't change someone's Genotype. No!
The worst situation is, when the problem starts happening, everyone around them will be affected and not just the couples. Yeah, I grew up to see some of my cousins we bonded together, died due to this issue and not only this, the situation drained a lot of money from family members.
This same case applies to people who smoke. While this may seem a bit different, since smokers often see the habit as fun and enjoyable, the consequences are dangerous. Smoking kills, and it is something that could be prevented. However, people ignore the warnings and only look for solutions after the damage has been done.
What makes it worse is that people jokingly mock the warnings, saying that clergymen who never smoked die before those who do. Funny, right? Lol.
Deep down, I feel that the system God gave us, where we can decide to do anything we want, has been stretched too far and needs some adjustment. But then, that would go against human rights at the core and might also seem like a rejection of the pattern God has already established for us.
But I feel people should be forced to abide by some safety rules that will help the world and not just settling on mere warnings as in the case of genotype, immunisation and smoking. Even as I typed this, I smiled because it's going to be difficult. People are going to fight against any law enforcing that. Some deep rural communities will strongly oppose it. It’s similar to mandating that everyone must have their own clipper instead of using the general ones in barbershops. People in villages may never accept that idea, no matter how much it is preached to them.
