Throughout my schooling days, both in secondary and primary schools, I was never interested in politics. I just wanted to live a low-key life and graduate with good grades. I think my low level of association contributed to it, though, because I didn't move along with the crowd. And, hey, it's not like I was dull; before you think that was the reason, no, I was among the top 10 in my class and department. I was among those who got booked to be seated during the exam.
But during level 300 at the higher institution, my friends influenced me to join the group of campaigns to campaign and also pocket some money. This didn't just come to play easily, but also because a close friend of mine was contesting for a position at the departmental level.
Nothing serious happened during the campaign season until the election day, which was declared a no-lecture day in my department.
The big school stadium was to be used, and before then, we had planned how we were going to generate votes with fake school ID cards. It was simple, we were to go in up to 4 times each to vote with different ID cards and guess what, the names of the fake ID cards had been added to the list already. How did they do that? I don't know. The group I was with had their way around it, which means they had the upper hand to beat the other opponents.
Unfortunately for my group and fortunately for the fairness of the election, the first person who went to vote twice was caught and was handed over to security. There was a mini riot, and the stadium went into chaos despite the heavy security.
When we heard about the info, we had to pull together the fake ID cards we were given and hid it somewhere. I was scared of being caught and possibly jeopardizing my education because anyone caught would be taken to the panel to judge, and if the case appears severe, the student gets expelled. Yes, it was as serious as that.
With the situation on the ground, it was evident that the opposite groups were leading and my team had to cause bigger chaos by rioting and insisting that the student caught be released immediately. The armies didn't adhere, and that's how the election was cancelled because the situation resulted in the release of tear gas and the shooting of guns in the air.
Thanks for reading.
