LJ is feeding the chickens in the early morning in preparation for the new arrivals!
Today we transferred in our most recent batch of chicks, who are finally old enough to leave the nursery and join the roosters and hens, to begin foraging for food, and experience what it is like to be a REAL free-range chicken.
The chicks are so far remaining in the coop, playing in the roosting house, and practicing their scratching and pecking. It was interesting to watch how the others responded to them, some nurturing, and others picking on them a bit.
I am learning how hearty and amazing chickens are, and how they need so little to lead fulfilling lives. There are no cramped cages here. This is one farm where chickens are cared for and respected as equals, and given what they need to carry on and enjoy life.
