Adam has been spreading the love by sharing his carpentry skills all over the farm. Today it was time to fix the outer parrot house door.
These 5 African greys are a combination of rescues, which had some behaviour problems, and store bought, which were more stable and could thus act as examples for the ones struggling to adjust.
The outer door acts as a barrier for our daily entries into the large enclosure. Before the outer door was installed, one parrot escaped and had a close encounter with a hawk. The door was the solution to prevent future mishaps.
Over time the wood had warped and was not properly closing. Adam had to cut out a wedge and place a support cross-beam to bring back the proper shape of the door.
I was surprised at the amount of work involved, and enjoyed Adams easy-going expression as he expertly and resourcefully worked through the fix. I think the parrot enjoyed the show as well, because as you can see in the photo, he watched from the inner door screen throughout the entire process!
