The pan-fried bun is one of the most famous dim sums in Shanghai. There are many restaurants making this delicious dim sum, but Da Hu Chun is the most famous one undoubtedly. Founded in 1932, Da Hu Chun is famous for its authentic local cuisine, and its pan-fried bun is the most famous one. Many other restaurants use the partially leavened dough to make a thin-skinned bun. However, Da Hu Chun goes off the beaten track. In Da Hu Chun, the buns are made of the fully leavened dough, so the thick bun skin will be chewier and absorb more meat juice. This featured bun enjoys great popularity and has become the most authentic Shanghai local cuisine.
And now the restaurant has several branches and the headquarter is located in Sichuan Middle Road. Two red lanterns are hung over the front door, so you cannot miss it if you pass by. When you enter in, you will see a decorated wall which displays many old fashion fittings and the atmosphere will bring you back to the eighties in Shanghai. The menu list is on the wall, on your right hand. You could make an order directly from the cashier. Besides the featured buns, you may also enjoy many delicious local cuisines. Just take your receipt, find a seat and enjoy these amazing dishes!
