When I shook the boughs of life,
I didn't hear the commandeering voices of army commanders.
When I played the strings of life,
I didn't get the rustlings of ministerial vehicles and bureaucratic suits.
When I enrolled in life's school,
I didn't graduate with a white overcoat and a pair of glasses sitting across the bridge of my nose.
I wasn't blessed with a musician's piercing voice
Or a model's captivating eyes.
I wasn't gifted with a Dj's swift fingers
Or a baseballer's addictive bat.
When the heavens thrust open and unfastened,
I got rivulets of words pouring from the universe's brain.
When I found myself on the sea's shore like a lost dream,
I got a pot made of words.
Then life gave me instructions on how to knead my words in the pot of words.
Life gave me hues of words,
And asked me to make sure I don't make them into weapons.
Life didn't give me a scientist's insistent brain;
Life gave me poetry
