“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” – 2 Timothy 3:15.
You cannot raise or train godly children if you are not godly. You must first be an example to your child. Practice what you preach. If you don’t fear God, you cannot instil the fear of God in your kids. Your child must see you as a devout Christian. They must see you praying, reading the Bible, fasting, going to church and giving. As they witness the results of your Christian practices it becomes easier to introduce them to God.
Push your children towards God, if not, friends will push them to the world. Hannah planted Samuel in the house of God at an early age, though she gave birth to five other children we never heard of any of them apart from Samuel. Spend time teaching your children God’s Word and how to pray when they are young. Explain to them the need to serve and rely on God.
The child may not like it or he may see it as a bother, but with time as he grows he will get into it and appreciate the seed of Christ you planted in their lives. Proverbs 22:6 (NLT) ~ “Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.” To train is to direct your children in the right path. Mould their character to become what they are supposed to be.
Don’t rely on your church children’s service to do your work for you. Invest time in training them so that they don’t become a burden in their adult years. Lead them to Christ, let them accept Christ by confessing their sins and inviting Him into their lives. The best gift you can give your children is Christ. When Christ is at the centre of their lives, it shapes their destiny, they make wise decisions, they associate with the right company, etc. God directs and orders their steps. Be a good steward of your children.
