Keychain development never stops.
While some of our larger releases get the spotlight, a lot of important work happens between releases. Over the past couple of weeks, we've been improving the extension across onboarding, account management, Portfolio, transaction history, reliability, and the overall user experience.
Here are some of the highlights from the latest development cycle.
Please keep in mind that most of the changes will be released with the EVM extension
A Guided Tour for EVM Chains
One of the newest additions is a guided tour for EVM chains.
The goal is to make it easier for users to understand the EVM experience inside Keychain and discover the relevant features without having to figure everything out on their own. Overall, it is very straightforward, but we wanted to give you all the tools to properly work with EVM on Keychain.
The guided tour was introduced and then refined through follow-up updates, showing that this is not just about adding the feature, but also about making sure the experience actually works as intended.
A Better Import and Export Experience
We've also been working extensively on the extension's import and export system.
Recent changes include a new menu entry, clearer labels, an updated file name, and improvements to the settings export and import routines. We also added encrypted local storage information for plain wallet addresses and improved the handling of settings that may need to be included in exported files.
There was also a fix to the migration routine, helping ensure that existing users can move through internal changes without unnecessary friction.
These aren't the kind of changes that necessarily make for a flashy announcement, but they matter when you're managing accounts and settings you expect to be there when you need them.
Portfolio and History Keep Getting Better
The Portfolio has received several improvements during this development cycle, besides what we have shown you about the Aggregator that you can read here.
Users can now select the account they want to view when looking at history, while refresh and filtering behavior have also been improved.
History itself has also been updated with pagination and a "Load more" option, making it easier to work with larger amounts of transaction data without trying to load everything at once.
These are small changes individually, but they become increasingly important as Keychain handles more accounts, assets, networks, and transactions.
Better Token Information
Another part of the recent work has focused on what happens when token information isn't immediately available from Keychain's backend infrastructure. The extension can now store token data locally when backend information is missing. It can also retrieve essential token metadata directly from the RPC when that information isn't available through the light node.
We are also changing some of the token information providers to conserve our resources, since some of them aggressively changed their pricing.
Faster and More Reliable Swaps
The swap experience also received several targeted improvements.
Swap loading was optimized to make the process faster, token selection was improved, and the Hive confirmation flow in Portfolio swaps was updated. There was also work on preventing users from getting stuck on the transaction confirmation loading screen.
The goal here isn't to add another headline feature. It's to make an existing feature feel faster, clearer, and more dependable right before the launch of Multichain.
Improving Onboarding and Everyday Use
Several other changes have focused on the details users encounter every day so we can be prepared for EVM users' arrival.
We've fixed crashes related to internationalization and logo loading, corrected translation issues, and improved error messages in notifications so users can get more useful information when something goes wrong. IPFS gateway handling was also improved since we added our own IPFS gateway for better reliability of fetching the metadata on the backend, while the ecosystem section was updated to use clearer dApp terminology.
As a plus, we are updating our landing page and Hive tutorial for a better understanding of what Keychain can do and what our blockchain is for all new users.
Development Is More Than New Features
Looking at the latest commits, there isn't one single headline feature that represents all the work.
Instead, we're improving many layers of Keychain at the same time:
Better onboarding.
Better account management.
Better Portfolio and history.
Better token data handling.
Faster swaps.
Better error handling.
More reliable migrations.
More polished everyday interactions.
Some of these changes are visible immediately. Others work quietly in the background.
That's the nature of building infrastructure for a wallet. A good part of the work isn't about adding another button. It's about making sure the buttons already there continue to work reliably as Keychain grows.
