Keychain keeps rolling!

While our larger and upcoming Multichain release gets most of the attention, a lot of important work happens between releases. Over the past couple of weeks, we've been improving the extension across the Multichain Portfolio, chain management, account handling, swaps, and everyday reliability, while also improving the price data behind the scenes and building a new landing page to match what is coming.

Here are some of the highlights from the latest development cycle.

Please keep in mind that most of the changes will be released with the EVM extension that is in its final testing stage. So, stay tuned!

Adding New Chains Is Getting Smoother

A big part of this cycle went into what happens when you add and manage EVM chains.

Adding a chain now loads faster, and a request to add a chain is no longer blocked completely when it includes non-HTTPS RPCs: those RPCs are simply filtered out, and the rest of the request can go through. We also improved the guided tour for adding a chain, updated how default chains are updated, and made sure that when a custom chain becomes a default chain, only your real user preferences are kept on import.

These are small changes on the surface, but adding a network is one of the first things a new Multichain user will do, and it has to feel safe and predictable.

Portfolio and Charts Keep Getting Polished

The Multichain Portfolio received another round of refinement.

Tab performance has been improved, so moving around the Portfolio feels lighter, chart dates have been updated, and chart prices now show decimals, making smaller balances and price movements easier to read accurately.

As the Portfolio starts holding more accounts, more networks, and more assets, these details stop being cosmetic. They are what make the numbers trustworthy at a glance.

Accounts, Imports, and Registration

Account management was tightened up across the board.

We improved account removal behaviour, including the error message shown on Hive when a removal fails, improved chain loading when importing a Hive account, and updated the behaviour for registering addresses in two successive passes.

None of this is flashy, but importing, registering, and removing accounts are operations users have to be able to trust completely.

Hive Is Still Home

Multichain does not mean Hive is being left behind.

In this cycle, we improved the loading of incoming and outgoing delegations, and refined the My Witness section, both its interface and making sure parameter changes are actually applied after you change them.

Keychain was built on Hive, and Hive operations will keep getting the same care as always.

Swaps and EVM Requests

On the EVM side, we improved the Uniswap process inside the extension and added sign_typedData v1 to the deprecated methods handling, so older signing requests are treated correctly instead of failing in unexpected ways.

We also improved the popup for manually adding a token, a small but essential step for anyone bringing a new asset into their Portfolio.

More Reliable Price Data

Behind the extension, our API received important improvements to the price data Keychain depends on.

HIVE prices were improved, and the HBD price history was enhanced in two steps: first, the way HBD history is fetched, then the HBD prices themselves in the historical data.

Portfolio values and charts are only as good as the data feeding them, so this work matters even if you never see it directly.

A New Landing Page to Match the Update

Keychain is changing, and our home on the web needs to change with it.

We are creating a new landing page that will arrive alongside the Multichain update. The goal is simple: a new visitor should understand in seconds that Keychain is now one wallet for Hive and every EVM chain, not just a Hive wallet with extras.

The new page leads with that Multichain story, presents Hive plus the EVM networks clearly and up front, and is honest about availability: Multichain is available now on the browser extension, and coming to iOS and Android soon. Downloads are split clearly between browser extensions and mobile apps, so nobody downloads the wrong thing expecting Multichain on day one.

More than a redesign, it is the front door for the users the EVM release will bring, and it will speak to them in terms they already understand, while keeping Hive at the core with real demos of what you can do when you have Keychain installed.
