If you haven't yet heard the news, have a look at Join Keychain Multichain Open Beta and help us take Keychain to the next level!
Before I start on some of my feedback, I will leave you with some quick-start guide/advice:
Done, you are ready to roll, all the same things for Hive Dapps, and you can test the new EVM features that I am going to delve into below.
Shoot any questions if you need help.
If you want to verify from the source code, the repo/branch is this one. Make sure that if you want to open issues, you add to the title of the issue something like this: "[Multichain BETA] something not working"
Always provide as much information as you can, and do some effort to explain how to reproduce or how you encountered the problem. Include any print-screens if possible.
Good luck!
Well, the Hive part, which I had to verify, is pretty much the same fluid thing where I can do my "next next next next" without any issues. I have been testing for more than 2 weeks now, and I pretty much use it all day, every day.
Either the version pre-compiled by the Hive Keychain team, or manually compiling it myself! Currently only tested on Brave, but it's on my books to test it on Firefox, which might have become less popular over time...
You now have the option to use a side panel (above there are two examples, and I will be mostly pasting screenshots of that mode in this post), which I am not yet very used to... but maybe on my huge screen makes more sense.
I have been digesting it, and the more time it passes, the more it makes sense on large, wide screens. And I am not really sure, but for me it also feels faster when it's on the side... maybe because the eye sees more. Unsure... Let me know what you experience about the side panel, and if you like it or not vs the popup.
You can also view NFTs on EVM, for example, I have these two very old, drawings from my oldest kid when he was younger.
What else can you do that might not yet be "fully working" but from my experience, for simple native chain transactions, it's pretty much flawless.
Sending ETH to somewhere... logging with your ETH wallet on https://altera.magi.eco, for example... to interact with the via an EVM account. Yes, I do it via Hive account because it has no fees, but it's possible to do it via an Ethereum account too.
You can also do swaps directly within the same EVM chain type for now. The left picture is on the Base network, and the right picture is on the Ethereum network.
These will potentially evolve and get broader to what other EVM wallets do.
I have been testing and playing with other (EVM-type) chains that are not yet necessarily fully supported, but probably will be along the way by the time this gets into production, such as, for example, BSC and Polygon chains.
You can add custom EVM chains like this...
On custom added chains, to the EVM wallet side, you can search for contracts of tokens you have on that chain. They are not yet necessarily auto-scanning them for you, but you can search and add them manually, like I have done here for these two tokens on the Polygon chain.
REMINDER: None of this is an endorsement of ANY tokens... π
Please keep in mind that EVM things are quite dynamic and sometimes either the RPC nodes change or the explorers. So, keep in mind that if you just copy and paste what I have here, and depending on how far in the future you are checking my post, it might not work anymore.
Also, if you do swaps within EVM chains that you custom add, be aware that those do not yet calculate the best fees for the transactions... so you kind of need to check manually what would be the best fee. Otherwise, you might be paying way more than needed.
For example, just look at this example using me adding Polygon as a customised added chain, and then got a calculated quote 3 times more than when using Metamask. This will get better, as more search for the best providers of gas fee calculators are found, although something for you to have in mind.
This might be complicated for most of my audience, so please don't feel discouraged if you can't understand it. I am always the kind of person who sees "anyone can do it", it's just a matter of time and step by step.
Anyhow, I have been exploring it, just like you can. So far, pretty good...
Still maintains all the functionality you are used to, on the Hive side, and if you want to start playing with EVM accounts you had previously, then this is the perfect segway.
Note that Hive Engine had some problems a couple of weeks ago, and therefore, most of the EVM-type supported chains are disabled at the moment, so don't send any tokens there yet and check Discord for updated news.
Back in the old days, when I was reallllly everywhere. I have enjoyed exploring (where I learned lots) games on WAX, EOS and EVM type chains.
So, this is the perfect time for me to revisit such experiences and update myself with the big projects out there, while testing the wallet and, within my possibilities, contribute with some value add.
Let's get an example for the sake of referring to a playground arena, and not that I endorse this specific one, but just because it was a quick search. Have a look at some of the "already live" games on https://playtoearn.com/blockchaingames and their respective blockchains, and if that creates enough motivation for you to give it a try on some that the supports. GO!
Don't expect "free-to-play AND play-to-earn" without any need for payment on EVM-type chains. They usually need you to contribute with some sort of payment before you can "play-to-earn".
These, for me, prove to be great general testing grounds for me to either find problems or validate that things are working the best they can.
But do take it with a grain of salt, as testing is not always an enjoyable journey for most. I love it, but because of my way of learning. Does not have to be like that for everyone.
Either way, I have a couple of games I will try to test keychain multichain on... over the upcoming weeks, and hopefully find an enjoyable one where I can share some more experience on, either through a narrated video or some snaps.
I might need to visit some older servers on Discord to reach out for good candidates to test with EVM wallets. But if you know good ones, you already play with Metamask, do please let me know. I want to give them a try, and it becomes easier for me, as I have someone to interact with here on Hive for any extra context.
One last topic... how many know/tried about this feature of ? Do you like it? What would you add here? Any feedback?
Have fun, play games, learn, and when possible, teach new things to newcomers, showing them how interesting this place can be. Check my own page too!
