Solstice Blessings! Dropping in, giving thanks, and a couple wonderful things that entered my field recently
Hello beautiful humans!
Today is the Winter Solstice, at least for those of us in the northern hemisphere. This is a day that I've found to be wildly powerful in my life, and a time that I always try to take the opportunity to give gratitude, set intentions, and all around just bask in the magic of life.
As most of you know, this year has been somewhat tough for me, and I'm overjoyed to be feeling better now than I have in a long time, to have a clear sense of what's coming next, and to be surprisingly unfazed by the dark days and cold weather (especially after practically skipping winter for the last 4 years).
Those Recommendations
Nattali Rize
First up is an amazing musician that a friend just brought to my attention recently, Nattali Rize. I haven't gone through all of her music yet, but so far I've really enjoyed everything that I've heard. Her lyrics are perfectly on point, the vibe is true classic reggae, and the videos are all extremely well made.
Starhawk
Next up is an author, activist, permaculturist, and bringer of magic to the mainstream: Starhawk. This is one of those humans that pops up in your field for years, but you never quite cross paths... until you do :-) In this case, I happened to find a copy of her first novel The Fifth Sacred Thing pretty cheap at a used book store, so I picked it up. This book has landed itself right in my short-list of recommendations, alongside Le Guin, Heinlein, and Banks. Starhawk's tale of San Francisco after separating from the statist hegemony was an emotional ride, with a powerful ending and is a wonderful look at nonviolent resistance, consensus-based decision-making, and spirit-based living.
