Warm greetings from here great steemians, with a little but gigantic story I heard about the historical but painful event that took place in April, in Rwanda.
Below is a picture of the loving family of the late former president of Rwanda, President Juvenal Habyarimana assassinated through a plane bombing. after-the-attack-that-took-the-life-of-the-rwanda-president-juvenal-picture-id161549939.jpg

I wish to share the story of one of the greatest world genocide that ever happened, right in the state of Rwanda leaving hundreds of thousands dead. It was on April 7, few days ago just chatting with a friend of mine presently in Rwanda and a citizen of Rwanda as well. We started a dialogue which ended up in the story of the genocide, especially when I asked the question "how is Rwanda today? " she then went on further to explain to me that the country is in mourning over her painful genocide event in the memories of history.
The Genocide was as a result of the misunderstandings between two ethnic groups in the former Rwandan state. The Hutu and the Tutsi.
Between April and June 1994, an estimated 800,000 Rwandans were killed in the space of 100 days. Most of the dead were Tutsis - and most of those who perpetrated the violence were Hutus.

The genocide was sparked by the death of the Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, a Hutu, when his plane was shot down above Kigali airport on 6 April 1994.
On the night of 6 April 1994 a plane carrying then President Juvenal Habyarimana, and his counterpart Cyprien Ntaryamira of Burundi - both Hutus - was shot down, killing everyone on board. Hutu extremists blamed the RPF and immediately started a well-organised campaign of slaughter. The RPF said the plane had been shot down by Hutus to provide an excuse for the genocide.

This was the major spark of it all.
The genocide had a lasting and impact on Rwanda and its neighboring countries.
The destruction of infrastructure and the severe depopulation of the country was crippled leaving the country in both a huge scene of economic breakdown and emotional distress.
Families were displaced, houses and buildings were destroyed. Thousands of lives were lost, it would have been a miracle for those families that later found themselves and reunited. Children were exposed to a harsh field of inhumane treatment.

But then, what could have conspired between these two ethnic groups? Could it actually be the bombing of the presidents plane alone? Or could there have been some traced unhealthy rivalry between these two ?
Let's glance a little into the history of the two tribes.

A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE HUTU AND TUTSI.

When the Belgian colonists arrived in 1916, they produced identity cards classifying people according to their ethnicity.
The Belgians considered the Tutsis to be superior to the Hutus. Not surprisingly, the Tutsis welcomed this idea, and for the next 20 years they enjoyed better jobs and educational opportunities than their neighbours.

The two ethnic groups are actually very similar - they speak the same language, inhabit the same areas and follow the same traditions.
However, Tutsis are often taller and thinner than Hutus, with some saying their origins lie in Ethiopia.

During the genocide, the bodies of Tutsis were thrown into rivers, with their killers saying they were being sent back to Ethiopia. I only can imagine a painful experience the people of Rwanda felt in this all, it couldn't have been so easy to flush such memories into thin air. Moreover when I asked my friend umutoni if she belonged to the Hutu or the Tutsi origin, she told me "I am Rwandan now, we are all Rwandans now".

If the world at large will one day stop seeing difference in themselves and key into the fact that all those who are in one way different from the rest due to colour, tribe, tradition or even historical origin, are actually not different, but only seem different. We all are ONE, one nation, one people, one tribe and that's the main reason we are all called THE HUMAN RACE, with such a conception in mind we are sure to make the world at large a better place for us all.
Genocide, coup d etat, civil wars have almost happened to every nation at one time or the other, especially due to the thirst for political or military power.

WAR is a crime and an inhumane one and as such should be discouraged to the extreme, it's high time we stopped seeing difference in ourselves.
May the lives of those who died during this struggle Rest in God's bossom.
Thanks for your time here *
