"Mommy! Mommy! Make Daddy give me the ball," my youngest son, Sam, demanded at the top of his voice while in a mock wrestling match with his father, my husband, and my first son, Godfrey. I smiled in satisfaction as I watched them play...I felt fulfilled.

Then the other shoe dropped. The doorbell rang.

Godfrey freed himself from his father's grip and ran to the door before I could get to it. Such energy. He opened the door to reveal two BPD police officers and another officer in mufti.

My heart skipped a beat.

"Are you Ms Kendall Parker?" The officer in mufti directed his question at me. My husband came up behind me. "Officers, good day. How may we help you?" He asked.

Time slowed for me at that moment. I felt my husband's chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath after his tussle with the boys.

The officers in uniform turned to look at my husband but the one in mufti, whom I assumed was the one in charge, did not take his eyes off me. His eyes were deep-set, intelligent and almost black. It was like he could see into my soul and drag out my past that may have come back to haunt me.

My dreaded past….

It was a cold evening. The law firm where I worked was quiet except for the noise of a photocopier running in one of the offices. A few staff must still be around. I raised my wrist to check the time —8.49pm. My neck was starting to hurt and I knew it was time to shut down my PC and head home to avoid a neck cramp.

I stood suddenly and my chair swivelled round. The copier stopped at that moment and I assumed whoever was working on it was done. I bent down, picked up my handbag from beside my chair, stood up and faced an unexpected, terrifying sight.

My immediate senior colleague, Eunice Coker, hovered a little in the air, right in my office!

Dressed in a black skirt suit and white blouse which was customary as lawyers, her eyes had turned pearlescent, without pupils, her fingernails unnaturally curved downwards like claws and thin wisps of smoke filtered out of her mouth. She pointed one finger-claw straight at me.

That was an image I would never forget in my life. My head suddenly became heavy like it was twice its size. The hairs on my neck and hands rose up as goosebumps spread out on my arms. I felt so cold all over and in shock dropped my handbag. I mumbled, "Oh my God! Eu-Eunice! Oh, God! What is this? What is wrong with you?"

Eunice was not listening. She did not seem herself. She muttered some words and I was stuck where I stood. I could not move and I tried to. A voice in my head berated me for wasting time trying to understand what was unfolding before my eyes.

It was not natural. It was diabolical.

"Eunice! Can you hear me? Stop this," I pleaded while I could still speak. I was terrified and trembling. I was shivering from some unnatural cold in my heated office.

Suddenly, Eunice stopped and tipped her head to one side. I think she could not believe I could speak after she held me to one spot with her supernatural powers.

It seemed the universe was on my side. I did not know where the strength came from but I acted quickly, picked up my snow globe on my office desk and hit it on Eunice's head. She grunted, fell and on the way to the floor, hit the back of her head against the sharp edge of my desk. I heard the crack of bones.

Eunice was unconscious while I was in a state of shock. "Eunice?" I moved to check on her —I moved! The spell was broken and I could move. I gingerly touched her head and blood stained my shaking hands. No. No. I had to get out of there. I ran out of the office and fell twice on my way out.

I ran into a police officer. He took a good look at my hands, arrested me immediately, called for backup and within ten minutes, the law firm was swarming with cops. Eunice's body was brought out on a stretcher. She was dead.

I could not speak, eat or sleep for two days. I was taken to the hospital and the doctors kept me under observation. On the third day, I requested to use the bathroom and that was when the police came inside the room to see me.

I could not stop crying but she informed me that investigations were carried out within the two days that I was in a trance-like state. The police watched the video from the CCTV camera and saw that Eunice's death was an act of self defence. They believed there was no point pressing charges and that I was free to go.

Some people might say that was a miracle...but I saw the whole incident as the end of my life. I moved to Idaho to start afresh. I met my husband, Billy and we settled down happily married.

One ghost from my past haunted me everyday for the eight years I was married to Billy.

I never told my husband about Eunice's death.
