I have always loved this clock at the house where I grew up.

It has never worked in my lifetime.

It has been a constant testimony to me of the value of the uselessly beautiful. I feel like my life would not be the same without this clock, and certainly not because it served any other purpose but to be beautiful and detailed and worth looking at.

We are obsessed with usefulness, and it's hurting us. The most "useless" things are often the most precious--love, laughter, friendship, beauty..

A world of only utilitarianism is not a world I want.

Heading off for a useless afternoon at the lake :).

Xx, Kay
