Between a passion for teaching and a dream of becoming an entrepreneur(eng-spn)
If I were asked today what career I would choose if I could turn back time, I would answer—with a touch of nostalgia—that I would choose to be a chef. Mind you, it’s not that I don’t love my current profession; it’s just that, in the country where I was born, it isn’t well-valued.
Currently, I am a teacher. I truly love what I do. Teaching, sharing time with my students, and watching them grow is one of the greatest joys of my life; teaching nourishes my soul. However, the reality in my country presents a very difficult challenge: there is no decent wage for those of us who dedicate our lives to education. If I had the chance to be a teacher again, I would honestly love to—but only in an environment where such a noble profession is genuinely valued. In my country, it simply isn’t worth it if one hopes to lead a decent life. Being a teacher here is more a labor of love—a passion for the craft and for learning itself. But let’s be honest: my children and I need to eat, we need clothes, and we’d like to be able to go out, dress well, and enjoy many other things.
That is why, if I could go back in time and make the choice again, I would take a different path. I would study gastronomy and pastry arts, and I would train to become a chef. My big dream would be to start my own business. I would love to be my own boss, carefully crafting every detail of the menu with dedication and creativity.
I imagine myself running a restaurant with a diverse menu. I would also include a cozy café and an ice cream parlor—a warm, inviting space where families feel right at home. And yet, my desire to help others would still remain a core part of who I am. I would use this project to provide part-time work for young students. In doing so, I wouldn’t just be offering good food or a memorable dessert; I would also be supporting young people as they move forward, contributing to society in a different way.
I will always have a passion for teaching. However, if I could choose without hesitation, I would create a space of my own—one that nourishes both the body and the spirit—while simultaneously opening doors for the next generation. If I had the means and sufficient funds, I would create job opportunities for students, helping them in the best way possible: by offering them work in my restaurant, where they could be productive and earn an income to support their continued studies.

Siempre me apasionará enseñar.
