Over the last couple of years in Eindhoven you have been able to see a shift in demography of the population. All of this has to do with the presence of the tech company ASML and it just attracts a lot of expats to the region.
This means there are a lot of people from Spain, China, India and Taiwan coming into the region to work at this company bringing in a piece of their culture which is cool. What is even better is that all of a sudden there is an audience in the city for different types of food, which up until now was always a bit under the radar outside of the obvious cuisines.
Mini lentil samosas chaat with tamarind chutney, yoghurt and cilantro-mint sauce
Foodgasm 2.0
One of the recently new players in town is Foodgasm 2.0 which is literally the new version from the old take away bar. So in another location there is a take away place where back in the days they also had like 3 tables when they started and I had eaten there once. It was cozy and small, but very directed to take away food.
Crispy culliflower with oriental influences
Apart from this take away location they wanted to make a place where you could really sit and have a night out, and where also the visual aspect of the food is highlighted a lot. That turned into Foodgasm 2.0
Old buildings and new tech
When I walked in here I knew it felt familair. The building is located in the centre of Eindhoven city and when I walked in and had a chat with the lady there, she asked me if I had been to the previous place called 'Boon'. All of a sudden a lot of memories came back because it was surely more than 10 years agao that I had been there, but I still remembered some elements of it.
The lady showed me the kitchen because she was proud of what it had become and it was cool to see here there were also traditional 2 tandoor ovens in there to make the bread in. Love it!
The ordering process was done on tables that you had at your table. Althought it does feel a bit unpersonal, in the experience of getting food quickly and having a lot of options to choose from....This was actually fantastic!
Vegan caviar Uthappem from lentil dough
Because of this ordering bonanza we decided to not go for any meny but just stay in the appetizer fest. I don't how it works with you guys, but most of the time I like appetizers a lot more than main courses. The dishes are smaller and there is so much more flavor in them. I could easily always go with just eating appetizers.
Vegan was really strong but meat dishes were also strong
The cool thing I find about the Indian cuisine is that the focus is not so much on meat but more on 'any' source of proteine. Because of all the herbs and spices that are used in the cuisine, dishes with for instance lentils really get a different game in there making it really attractive to try other stuff.
But also it was worth a try to get the meaty dishes here.
Smoked lamb shawshank
The lamb dish from above here was still an appetizer but it was so gigantic it could easily have gone into a main course as well if some rice or naan was served with it.
And damn it was good with a nice smokey flavour on there. Not bbq like smoke, but tandoor kind of smoke.
We also decided to get 1 curry because from the take away part that was already there I knew it was really good as well.
This in combination with the Garlic butter naan was just amazing to be honest and I will surely pick it up again in the take away location (or try to make it myself)
Madras chicken curry
Beers and spicy cocktails
The last thing I want to highlight is the variety of drinks that were served here. Next to trying a heavy beer from the 'Fourchette' brand which was really nice with the curry (Admittingly....I used chatGPT4 to ask which of the beers from the menu would suit the food best. ChatpGPT4 makes pictures and turns it into text if you need so).
Also finishing it off with a spicy cocktail which literally a part of pepper in the drink and curry spicy on the edge of the glass these were all super nice extra's on the menu.
This surely will not be the last time that I was here, as there is so much on the menu that I haven't tried yet which does deserve attention. Foodgasm 2.0 is surely 10/10
