For the last three years since I have moved back to Holland I have been trying to grow stuff myself at home. The biggest project as we are spicy eaters is trying to produce damn hot peppers, and it doesn’t work as you want it to. The first year we started a bit too late and by the time it was September and getting colder, that is when the plants were starting to sprout. The next year they were actually giving peppers until they kind of drowned in the Dutch monsoon of summer.
This year the plants are looking strong actually. We are having a variety of peppers from which some are more Scoville scale hot than others. These first plants we bought as a small one just from the home garden center and it already had small peppers in there and now it is really giving! These are not the hottest of the world at all, but they give a good bite to the dishes.
As you see the harvest is actually very decent and there is way more to come. The other plants also have grown very decently in the last couple of weeks due to very nice weather with loads of rain but also good sun and I am expecting the small bulbs to turn into flowers soon. The bees have been working hard in the neighborhood and I see them visiting the plants every now and then. As long as the snails don’t eat the plants I guess in a couple of weeks these plants will be decent size and probably (hopefully) giving a lot of fruits.
Maybe…I will even keep some of the pepper seeds (because they will be way too hot to eat anyways) for next year and again start from scratch. I’m not sure if the plants will survive the winter and if they even should. But for now…happy harvesting hot style!
