It is a fact that we all see things and interpret events according to the way we think and what we already believe.
This usually depends on both our level of consciousness and on previous conditioning or upbringings. If we have fixed, strong, unchangeable beliefs, then when a new "idea" comes to us, instead of truly listening or learning from it, we start to compare it with what we already believe so that we can either agree or disagree.
We base our opinions, and logic on our personal beliefs and experiences of life. Sometimes this can make us! very ignorant, especially if we aren't willing to learn new things.
