. I am presenting these thoughts from the Traditional Cherokee perspective of offering them once, and thereafter not engaging in debate or argument. I am offering my thoughts to the universe if ideas.
The purpose of this presentation is to confront an overwhelming American death culture, by attempting to balance it with a procedure to reestablish a culture of life, all of life. I will be presenting historical facts that most of you have never been presented with before. It will at first seem strange and subject to distrust or denial. I request that you read it again and seek additional information via the sources listed, among others. In time it will become increasingly meaningful to you and become internalized enabling you to take action on behalf of all life. This is something that we, Indian and White among others, can do together to enhance life and strike a serious blow to the culture of death. I encourage you to read this in its entirety, to take necessary action, and to pass this on to others.
I believe that we have reached a time in human history, where for the continuance of life on Earth, those who can must act strongly and act now on behalf of all life. There is no longer a can to kick down the road.
Few things in life are worse than aggressive ignorance. Too often one’s historical perspectives are shallow, which renders them easily susceptible to ideological manipulation. Absent the academic study of history guided by those whose lives have been dedicated to understanding the lessons of history, one’s beliefs are easily misled and their actions too easily manipulated. Certainly one has the right to think and say what they believe. However, today the historical and moral voices of reason have been supplanted by the manipulated voices of control. Ideologies are so closely held by individuals, governments, churches and the military, and reality so shaped and propagandized by the kleptocrats, that truth cannot be easily found. The educated and moral voices have spoken but there have been no ears to hear.
There have been five previous extinction events in human history, and now the evidence demonstrates that we are well on our way to the sixth. It’s the ultimate question of theoretical biology, can civilized man overcome hunter killer man? The evidence is clearly in favor of hunter killer man, and the answer appears to be no. From the common man to the kleptocrats the shrill voices of death and destruction are everywhere in evidence. The voices of life and reason have been overpowered by the voices of death. The question of life or death is simple and efforts to complicate it only reflect one’s inability to confront it. Life is a choice, and continued life on Planet Earth depends on our choosing life, all of life, and doing it now.
RATIONALE: When the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, an ideology emerged in the United States that the new messianic mission of the U.S. was to become God’s steward of the Earth. The idea of “American Exceptionalism” motivates its implementation. Today the United States is functioning under a concept called the Washington Consensus. It involves the rest of the world, surrendering its sovereignty by means of economic globalization through trade pacts, and so on, that virtually abolishes the constitutions of states, including the United States. ISDS (Investor State Dispute Settlement) provisions in these trade agreements “limit” state regulations in the public interest by forcing states to pay corporations for lost profits due to disputes. This concept is embodied in neo-liberal (ultra conservative) economic policy.
The enforcement of these policies falls to the United States military via NATO under the principle of “right to protect” or “humanitarian war”. This policy is described as pre-emptive war and regime change. Humanitarian war has no legal authority in international law. It is sometimes described as state humanitarian vigilantism. This concept is embodied in neo-con foreign policy.
Thus far neither military nor economic war on the sovereignty of other nations has delivered anything other than death, displacement, and concentration of great wealth in the hands of the few. Unless this bipartisan military aggression is ended, we will remain on the precipice of nuclear war and further descent into domestic social brutalization. So what do we do?
One of the most dangerous drivers of death is the myth of American Exceptionalism. The theocratic basis for the belief in American Exceptionalism has it’s roots in the fifteenth century Papal Bulls. Dum Diversis, Romanus Pontifex, and Inter Caetera. “When we look at the specific wording of a series of papal decrees (inter alia, Dum Diversas (1452), Romanus Pontifex (1455), Inter Caetera (1493)), we see that they called for non-Christian nations, so-called “pagans,” to be invaded, captured, vanquished, subdued, reduced to perpetual slavery, and for all their possessions and property to be taken away from them in order to benefit Western Christendom with global empire and dominations (“imperi et dominationes”) riches, wealth, and vast areas of real estate. “Before we go further let us distinguish some core terminology. There is a difference between Christ and Christianity: the former a title given to Jesus of Nazareth by those who believe him to be the Messiah of the family of Abraham; the latter is the teachings these believers produced over many years in the institutional development of their Church. Christianity, the belief system of the church, is different from Christendom, which is an amalgamation of churches and states. Christendom consists of alliances among secular princes and priestly authorities; it culminates in the doctrine of divine right of kings and popes. When we make these important distinctions, we can begin to understand the possibility of differences between the teaching of Jesus and the political and legal doctrines of a church state complex operating in his name. Jesus is not reported as having ever uttered any words about American Indians, but official organizations of Christendom most certainly did utter words and enact laws and policies affecting Indians, from the time of first contact to the present. The doctrines of Christendom informed the thinking of jurists and other lawgivers who created property and federal Indian Law. Religious dogmas of fifteenth-century Vatican papal bulls were deployed as the foundation of property law, nationhood, and federal Indian law in the early nineteenth century. Court decisions bound U.S. law to the world of Christendom and Christian imperialism. This process was not hidden or mysterious, nor was it a conspiracy among judges and priests. The results of the application of the Doctrine of Christian Discovery and Domination has been the purposeful deaths of one hundred million American Indians by violence in the form of killing, purposeful spreading of disease, starvation, removal of American Indian children from their homes and placing them in religious boarding schools to “kill the Indian save the child”, theft of land and resources, and failure to honor treaties, collectively resulting in the greatest genocide in the last five hundred years, the American Genocide. This was not a war, this was a genocide. Today a quiet genocide continues based on the Doctrine of Christian Domination deeply ingrained and reflected in the Indian Law of the United States.
When the first permanent settlement was founded at Jamestown in 1607, it was successful because the Iron Age met the Stone Age. Armed with the Doctrine of Christian Discovery and Dominion and Iron Age technology, the First Peoples of Turtle Island (America) were purposefully eliminated. An unfortunate theocratic terminology was applied to The Great Genocide describing it as “Manifest Destiny”.
Today, a similar theocratic based ideology and terminology known as “American Exceptionalism” is being deployed attempting to establish world dominion via neoliberal economics and pre-emptive humanitarian wars. The difference this time is that the nuclear age is meeting the nuclear age, a clear and dangerous distinction. Russia and China are nuclear powers and attempts to topple them is an exercise in madness.
I have attempted in brief, to illuminate not only the deathly outcomes of the Papal Bull Inter Caetera on the First Peoples of the Americas; but, also to show its roots in the myth of American Exceptionalism which today is leading us directly to the precipice of nuclear war with Russia and China. The one thing that both the American People and American Indians can do together, to assist the restoration of all of life, is to eliminate the historical underpinnings of the continuing quiet genocide of Indian Peoples, and to greatly lessen the chance of nuclear war by taking immediate actions leading to an early revocation of the Papal Bull Inter Caetera. Five hundred years of death, based upon this Papal Bull is enough. Not just life in the womb, but all of life is at great risk by allowing the Papal Bull Inter Caetera to continue to exist. I am respectfully requesting your assistance to eliminate this Bull and its continuing deathly potential. We have everything to gain by eliminating the Bull and little to lose. I cannot speak to how you choose to act individually, I just pray that you act before life on Earth is once more eliminated in the sixth extinction. In my best judgment, one must act now to turn this overwhelming culture of death in which we now find ourselves, once again into a culture of life. There is a great imbalance in favor of death in American culture today, so an equally great effort to support all of life must be now made to counteract the great imbalance, and restore the balance once again so that harmony may be restored. Life cannot be cherry picked, it is life or death, the choice is yours, and the time is now.
