Ecency Observations #2 - Published or Not Published Is The Question
This is my second publication on my observation on Ecency as a user. Now, before I jump into my latest claptrap, it behooves to iterate that I find Ecency an exceptional decentralised platform. It’s not just an esthetically pleasing interface, but I also believe that it is a space where people can foster real companionship while also being rewarded for it.
As an architect, I’ve spent most of my adult life hunched over drawings and building models, and for this, I must admit (with great chagrin) my inexhaustible ignorance about computer sciences. Due to my recent commitment to learn as much as I can about programming and networking, I do have some questions about the infrastructure that platforms such as Ecency are built on.
This lands me poignantly on today’s observation; why is it that the “Publish” button on Ecency Waves frequently freezes? The reality of the matter is that the button not only freezes, but pretends to freeze, thus causing the user to push it multiple times to publish their wave. My observation is that the “Publish” button does not respond in real time to the user’s input, thus causing as “spam-like” post by publishing the same post multiple times into the feed.
Initially I thought this was a network issue on my side. I therefore went on Netflix and YouTube to test the network speed, and lo and behold, the streaming proceeded without any buffering. Needless to say, this left me thoroughly baffled. It's at this juncture that I decided to direct my bewilderment to the experts on Ecency. What may be causing the delays in response, and why is the same Wave duplicated when the said delays occur?
I do have a theory, but without any real foundation to support it, it’s more like a hunch (I stand to be thoroughly corrected).
In architecture, we are taught to place functionality over aesthetics. The great architect Le Corbusier coined the phrase “form follows function”. This means that our building designs must never compromise functionality for the sake of beauty. The best architects in the world find a way to balance functionality and aesthetics. The short of the long question in my hunch is; could Ecency be compromising efficiency (functionality) for aesthetics? Or is the slow response unrelated to the well-designed UIX?
Besides churning a slew of claptrap, I’m really posting this to learn more about the Infrastructure platforms such a Ecency are built upon. It would be of great help if any expert in the field could provide a brief overview how things work here.
Thank you for reading this post. It's intended for me to learn while also poiting out some issues experienced on Ecency as a user. It is my hope that this platform and similar will grow as the general public becomes more open to blockchain technology and decentralised apps.
Have a lovely day 😊
