When I learnt about the Ecency email subscription feature, I felt genuinely happy for it as I see it as the first step into putting Hive content to people that have no clue that there is anything like hive. Since then I've begun to recommend to my friends and family who do not use Hive to read my posts any time I publish something new.
This is something every Hive creator need to do, you need to ask your friends and family to subscribe to your email subscription service to have your posts in there inboxes daily and you don't need them to get a hive account and understand keys to read your content, this could see our work eventually spread beyond just this platform.
However after I was happy with my thoughts on ecency email subscription, it got me thinking about something else. The only way to earn here currently is through upvotes, and I am quite thankful of that as it is the very reason i am here in the first place. The only problem with that is that upvotes aren't always steady, some days are great, some days are quiet because upvotes isn't guaranteed, so when you write and write and still end up with nothing, it will demotivate you to continue writing.
So, I thought whether Ecency would be able to add a means for creators to earn a little bit of money from their content, something that is already everywhere on the internet. I am talking about adding a small ad slots in the email newsletter our subs get. I don't mean the typical pop-ups that would cover the screen or any big banners but a single sponsor ad, either at the bottom or top of our email subscriptions which might read "this newsletter is brought to you by" and it just stays like that.
The reason I think it could work is that advertisers are currently paying a whole lot of money to reach people through emails and I have seen writers on other platforms doing this and making income from it. We on Hive already have creators writing quality content in here and to our audience who will subscribe to emails.
It wouldn't need to be complicated at all, Ecency can partner with an advertising network that specializes in email newsletters or maybe let creators bring in their own sponsors and share from the revenue. Ecency could take a portion of the revenue and payout the rest to creators account in HBD Or HIVE. Readers will get the same clean email and we the writers gets a little boost to our earnings for creating content on Hive platform.
I know some people might be worry about spam or too many ads, but I believe if it's done right like only one or two slots per email it won't feel bad. It would actually feel like we are being treated like every other content writers out there who deserves more income for our content. Writing is not an easy thing to do, and if ecency can help us to earn a bit more through the email subscription, I think more people will like to stay longer on the platform and it can bring in new users who will be committed to writing on ecency daily.
So, this is just my suggestion as someone who loves the ecency platform and want it to grow. If more writers feel the same way, maybe the ecency team can consider trying it.
