It is really very beautiful. Well It is indeed beautiful but maybe after knowing the reason behind why it was build your eyes will come in tears.

During the world war 1 more than 80000 soldiers were killed and India Gate was built in the memory of those soldiers only.
So while it is beautiful it is also a place that reminds us of the soldiers that died fighting for our country.

India Gate is 42 meters in height and it was designed by famous Architect Edwin Lutyens. Many people don't know this but the name of India gate was initially named as All India War Memorial.

Also the official name now is Delhi Memorial. When you will visit India gate you will be able to see that India is written on each of the other side of the building.

You will also be able to read the names written on the Entire India gate and these are actually the names of soldiers who died during the world war 1 between 1914 and 1919.

There are around names of 70000 Indian soldiers written on the walls of India Gate. There is also a shallow bowl at the top of the India gate that is burned on special occasions.

It is indeed heart broken that many people who visit the India Gate are unaware of the fact that it is in the memory of our beloved soldiers who died at that time. People go there take photographs , make videos etc but they don't know the history.

Everyone knows that on 26th January i.e on Republic Day there is a huge parade going on where soldiers perform and showcase latest arm and defence equipments. And still many people are unaware about why it is done by the soldiers.

I believe that after reading my post you will remember the sacrifice of the life of our soldiers from the past and also tell about this to others.

Thank You
