I have been looking for some insects in my garden to try and photograph some insects using the macro setting on my camera, but I have struggled to find any. Or at least any that would stay still long enough for me to take a picture of! But then I thought, why are you trying to find them in the garden? Your conservatory has loads of them. Which is true, the glass roof of my conservatory tends to entice flies and butterflies into my house. Sadly most of them end up becoming food for the spiders that live in the nooks and crannies of the conservatory roof. Which is good for the spiders; but not so good for the butterflies and flies!

So I started by looking on the plants I have in my conservatory, and sure enough I found this hoverfly on this Cyclamen. This is the best photo I was able to get of him. The other ones I took were too blurred.

I'm not a proper photographer - I don't have a fancy camera. I just have a basic digital one, which happens to have a macro setting on it. To be honest, I didn't know what the macro function did until a few months ago even though I have had the camera for years. I'm quite pleased with the result. So this will no doubt be one of many macro shots I will take. I may eventually invest in a better quality camera, and even takes some lessons in how to use it. who knows? Maybe I should take the time to learn all the functions this little camera has first.
