I had managed to avoid catching covid since the epidemic started in 2020. I have been a little nervous about getting it because of the chronic health conditions I have. Among them two lung conditions, asthma and bronchiectasis. Bronchiectasis is a progressive disease of the lungs where damage to the alveoli, the small tubes that fill your lungs, become widened. This leads to sputum collecting in them making the sufferer susceptible to getting lung infections leading to more damage. So as you can see, it wouldn't be a good idea for me to catch a lung disease like covid.
My wife caught it about a year ago but some how I didn't. Even though we didn't keep away from one another, because by the time we realised she had it, it would have been too late. I would have already have been exposed.
I have had three covid jabs, so although I knew the effects of the last one I had is waning. I thought I was pretty safe. But last weekend I started to feel a little unwell and thought I had a cold. Then on Monday my daughter phoned to say she had tested positive for covid. I had seen her a few days previously so I tested myself. Within seconds the test showed that I had it too.
Thankfully it hasn't been too bad. I felt a little grotty and have had to be careful to keep my lungs clear, I have breathing exercises to help to clear my chest. But other than that I haven't been too bad. I know other people who have been completely knocked out by it for a few days, they had been vaccinated too. But it has been quite mild for me.
I know there has been a lot of controversy around covid and the vaccine. But I'm grateful that I had my shots, it may have been far worse had I have refused to have them. I will be having my booster as soon as possible, but I think I have to wait a few weeks because I have had covid.
I think I'm now well on the mend.
