Jade was never meant for the soft, manicured hands of the palace. Nor was she meant to dress and bathe the royal female inhabitants that dwelt within. No, she was carved from the earth’s most unyielding stone.
She lived by a quiet, unbreakable resolve. Like the imperial and deep-rooted nature of her namesake, her inner fortitude remained completely untouched—weathering every storm her adversaries threw her way.
One evening after returning from the mountains, she stood before the Emperor’s council, her gaze as steady and unblinking as the sacred green gem resting around her neck.
The exquisite gem she'd inset into a necklace that she crafted with skill in her father's goldsmith shop. Her father warned her. Be prepared for the rejection.
"A woman cannot rule the jade mines," the Grand Vizier scoffed, the weight of a dozen ancient scrolls pressed into his words.
She smiled, the corners of her mouth holding the same calm serenity as a polished amulet.
Reaching into her traveling cloak, she did not pull a sword, but instead rolled a rough, earth-crusted boulder across the obsidian table. It shattered on impact, revealing a flawless core of luminous, imperial green gems.
"The emerald mountain only yields and gives up its treasures to those who know its heart," Jade hissed, her voice slicing through the shocked silence.
"And I am its daughter," she shouted above the crowd of incredulous onlookers."
The Emperor's council immediately took recess to discuss and assess the dire situation.
When they returned, defeat lined their solemn faces as they had no choice but to appoint Jade and her father Master of the Mines.
For my current mixed media project, I wanted to highlight one of my personal pictures that hang in my home office. Three large vases with a backdrop of gray and black that looks like the items were set in front of the tall columns.
A striking picture I've enjoyed for decades. I ran the picture through Deep Dream Generator, an photo manipulation program with numerous filters you can apply to an image.
For the female's face, I used the stable diffusion program, StarryAI.
