I don't have to pledge to participate in this week's ZAPFIC50 Friday challenge. It's not a commitment, but a pleasure to do so. For this week, I'm focusing on the prompt "pledge" and how much it means to each individual. Pledging to undertake or not to take action is a serious commitment in my view. My story is below:
Adrienne eagerly signed the agreement, brushing off Robby's warning. Earning her estranged uncle's fortune sounded straightforward.
But reading his codicil was morbid. Unhinged was befitting.
Pledging to cut herself off from all other family left her speechless.
Immediately, she dialed Robby.
No fortune is worth abandoning your family, he scolded.

Adrienne firmó el acuerdo con entusiasmo, haciendo caso omiso de la advertencia de Robby. Hacerse con la fortuna de su tío, con el que no tenía relación, parecía sencillo.
Pero leer su codicilo resultaba macabro. «Desquiciado» era el adjetivo adecuado.
El compromiso de romper todo vínculo con el resto de la familia la dejó sin palabras.
Inmediatamente, llamó a Robby.
«Ninguna fortuna merece que abandones a tu familia», le reprendió él.
