When I read the topic "Which is the Real Sabbath?" I thought about the commandments of God, what He expects from His people. Various groups have taught various ideas concerning the Sabbath and for many years, I believe the most important thing is to examine the Scriptures with an honest heart and let the Word of God lead us.

In reading the Bible, I am aware that God set apart the seventh day from the beginning of creation. The seventh day is blessed and sanctified by God as said in Genesis 2:3. This is a proof that God Himself put in place the Sabbath. Later, in the Ten Commandments, God told His people to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy (Exodus 20:8-11).

In listening to the discussion about the actual Sabbath I found myself thinking that it is not simply about keeping a tradition. It is a matter of doing what pleases God in love and reverence. Jesus Himself kept the Sabbath. It was His practice to enter the synagogue every Sabbath day (Luke 4:16). This is a lesson to me that Sabbath was significant to our Lord.

As I learned that, I also learned that God wants our worship and obedience to be from the heart. “Man was not made for the sabbath, but the sabbath was made for man” (Mark 2:27). This makes me remember that the sabbath is a gift of God and not a burden. A time to remember Him, learn His word and to build my faith.

To sum up, this topic prompted me to study seriously the Scriptures and search for truth in an unbiased way. I believe that God's Word should always be our final authority. Psalm 119:105, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I pray that God will continue to lead us and all believers into his truth so we all worship Him in spirit and in truth.
