Drug abuse is a major issue in the world and today. Peer pressure, pain, stress, depression, and curiosity are some of the factors that may lead many people to use drugs for the first time. Initially, they believe it will make them feel better but later on, they get caught up in it. Drug abuse has a negative effect on the body, the mind, relationships, and life itself, including one's relationship with God. In this MCGI topic review I learned that there is more to freedom from drug abuse than human effort. It is from God, who provides us the strength to transform our lives.
A lesson that really touched my heart is that we have to accept that drug abuse is bad and that we do need God's help to stop taking drugs. That is the word of the Bible in 1 Corinthians 10:13: "God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able. I take comfort in this verse because it helps me to remember that God will always provide me with a way to avoid temptation. God is always ready to help those who are sincere in seeking Him, regardless of how hard it is.
Also learned that bad company is a reason for not doing good things because friends can influence our choice. 1 Corinthians 15:33 states that "Evil communications corrupt good manners. This is a lesson for me to pick my friends who would inspire me to do what is right. Our good friends can help us, pray for us and keep us away from bad habits.
I recall an experience that helped me to internalize this lesson. I once witnessed the entrance into toxic substances of a person close to me due to people. At first it was a small habit, but over time it influenced their behavior, attitude and peace of mind. As I continued to observe the situation, I knew how dangerous drug abuse can be. It also made me realize, that anyone can fall if they're not careful. Since then, I have had to be a lot more cautious of my surroundings and decisions.
Another lesson that we learn is that prayer and reading God's Word provides strength. God's truth is like a sword in our hearts, making us more powerful when tempted. All things are possible to me, for I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me," says the bible verse in Philippians 4:13. This verse is an encouragement verse for me because I know that I never fight alone. God is always with me and strengthens me all the time.
Finally, I am reminded that from this topic addiction can be overcome if we trust in God, stay away from bad company, pray sincerely, and obey His Word. I feel like anything is possible with God in your life. Through faith, patience and the support of Godly individuals, anyone can overcome their addiction to drugs and start a new life with a positive outlook.
