Greetings, friends.

"Poetry is always unique, some kind of immortal touch to the soul..." The author of this quote, which every Ukrainian knows, is a brilliant Ukrainian woman, a master of words that touches the innermost strings of the heart, the incomparable poetess Lina Kostenko. Today is her birthday - 93 years old.
My love and admiration for poetry began precisely with Lina Vasylivna's work. Her poems are impossible to read, they never get boring. Rereading my favorite lines again and again, I look for something new, bright and multifaceted for myself.

A female legend. She is the bearer of the true Ukrainian spirit, her words are inexhaustibly fair and fearless. Lina Kostenko is a poet who belongs to the generation of the sixties. The woman was never afraid of power. Neither the KGB, nor Yanukovych's clowns, nor the ban on creativity could intimidate her. Lina Vasylivna always wrote, even when she was not heard of in the cultural spaces of Ukraine. All her brilliant words saw the light of day, after years of storage in a drawer.
Lina Vasylivna Kostenko was born into a family of teachers. Her parents were deeply educated, intelligent people. As you know, during the formation of the Soviet Union, those who could think, had intelligence and knowledge, posed a danger to the criminal authorities. The poet's father independently learned 12 languages (!), he could teach any subject at school. When NKVD agents broke into the Kostenko home and began to demand weapons, the owner of the house pointed to the cradle where little Lina was sleeping and said that it was a weapon. These words were prophetic, because the power of the word and the murderous truth of the pen are about Lina Kostenko.

They say that our famous poetess has a very complex character. I personally don't understand what its complexity is. Perhaps it is that she does not allow her personal life to be put on the shelf for public scrutiny and condemnation. That is her right. If a person wants to say something to society, he does it in different ways. Lina Kostenko uses poems. If personal, family, private things are closed from the general public, then this is everyone's right, and not evidence of bad character traits. The complexity of the individual in his own opinion, the ability to always defend it in steel character and steadfastness of principles. Everyone would still have such a difficult character...and the world would become a better place.
During the year of the war, the world saw more than one poetic masterpiece from the pen of a brilliant poetess. Each of us knows and quotes about the "little gray man". May God give Lina Kostenko, this incredible woman, many more years of life, because Ukraine needs her wisdom, her rhyming words, her poetic truth and guidance.
