29-30 вересня 1941 року в Бабиному Яру сталася одна з наймасштабніших трагедій Другої світової війни. Лише за 2 дні тут фашисти розстріляли майже 34 тисячі євреїв. Це місце, на ряду з таборами смерті, розкиданими по всій Європі, стало символом Голокосту.

On September 29-30, 1941, one of the largest tragedies of the Second World War took place in Babi Yar. In just 2 days, the fascists shot almost 34,000 Jews here. This place, along with the death camps scattered throughout Europe, became a symbol of the Holocaust.
Дивлячись на геноцид українського народу, який відбувається сьогодні, можна провести аналогію з діями фашистської Німеччини проти євреїв. І все ж, маючи живу, кровоточиву рану від війни та масових вбивств наших громадян, варто пам’ятати трагедії минулого. Адже історія вчить майбутньому, нажаль, не всіх.
Looking at the genocide of the Ukrainian people that is happening today, you can draw an analogy with the actions of fascist Germany against the Jews. And yet, with a living, bleeding wound from the war and mass murders of our citizens, it is worth remembering the tragedies of the past. After all, history teaches the future, unfortunately, not everyone.
Готуючи для учнів презентацію про Бабин Яр, знайшла на просторах Інтернету вірш, який глибоко вразив мене. Без зайвих слів, сиджу плачу:
While preparing a presentation about Babyn Yar for students, I found a poem on the Internet that deeply impressed me. Without further ado, I sit crying:
Танцювала здається колись у балеті здається
зараз тіло неначе чуже важко дихати йти
автоматник стоїть на узбіччі стоїть і сміється
я ще думала вранці що треба кофтину вдягти
ту привезену з кантиком білим бо вже прохолода
дуже гарна була і улюблена ще до війни
даніель мій казав що мені на усе недогода
але зараз інакше усе бабин яр довкруги бур’яни
коло мене ідуть різні люди і дуже багато
на руках у жінок немовлята скрізь діти й старі
а сусідка хавіва вдяглась як на справдішнє свято
навіть туфлі святкові узула і бог угорі
бачить сльози хавівині й ноги об камені стерті
аж до крові у танці під дулом підошви ж тонкі
залишилося кілька хвилин до останньої смерті
бо усі попередні вмирання були не такі.

Ще доступні стали архівні відео з Нюрнберзького процесу, під час якого давали свідчення очевидці трагедії – люди, які дивом врятувалися. Слухала запис із виступом Діани Пронічевої. Вона розповіла про звірства фашистів. Перед розстрілом жінку та ще цілий натовп людей підвели до краю піщаного насипу. Вона похитнулася та навмисно полетіла до низу за секунду до розстрілу. Майже до темна Діана вдавала із себе мертву, лежачи між людьми, які були розстріляні чи мучилися в передсмертній агонії.
Archival videos from the Nuremberg Trials, during which eyewitnesses to the tragedy - people who miraculously escaped - testified, have also become available. I listened to a recording of Diana Pronicheva's performance. She told about the atrocities of the fascists. Before the shooting, the woman and a whole crowd of people were brought to the edge of the sand embankment. She wobbled and deliberately flew downwards a second before the shooting. Until almost dark, Diana pretended to be dead, lying among people who had been shot or were suffering in the agony of death.
Фашисти дострілювали тих, хто лишився живий. На Діані Пронічевій не помітили крові, тому стали ногами на груди та руки, щоб перевірити, чи вона жива. Не уявляю навіть яких зусиль вартувало їй не закричати від болі! Вона витримала – і вижила, вибравшись з яру в суцільній темряві.
The fascists shot those who remained alive. They did not notice any blood on Diana Pronicheva, so they stepped on her chest and hands to check if she was alive. I can't even imagine how much effort it took for her not to scream in pain! She endured - and survived, getting out of the ravine in complete darkness.
Сподіваюся, що в скорому майбутньому аналогічний судовий процес побачить увесь світ. Тільки відповідачем буде росія і путін. Хочу, щоб кожен рашист, причетний до вбивств українців, отримав покарання. За Бучу, за Ірпінь, за Бородянку, за Ізюм, за Балаклію та всі інші міста і села, в яких вони творили звірства.
I hope that the whole world will see a similar trial in the near future. Only russia and putin will be responsible. I want every racist involved in the murders of Ukrainians to be punished. For Bucha, for Irpin, for Borodyanka, for Izyum, for Balaklia and all other cities and villages in which they committed atrocities.
