Hello, dear Hive friends!
Today I want to write to you about making homemade fig jam.
First, I start by getting two small fig plants 8 years ago.
They were about 50 inches high, with only a few leaves on them.
One plant survived and the other withered.
In 8 years, the fig bush has grown huge.
It did not bear fruit in the first years.
We can harvest it in early autumn, the fruits are ripe for it.
Last fall I noticed there was a lot of ripe fruit on the bush and I decided to make fig jam for the winter.
I was able to harvest about 2 kg of ripe fruit.
Making fig jam is very simple and quick, I’ve never done it before, so I was very excited about the result.
I found a recipe on Google, that looked good.
First I washed the figs, removed the cob, cut it into quarters, and put it in a pot.
I added half a pound of granulated sugar, cinnamon, a whole lemon chopped into pieces.
I poured 2 dl of water, a drop of rum and mixed on low heat.
When it was done, I mashed it with a stick mixer and poured the hot jam into small, disinfected jars.
Then I put the little bottles in a basket between warm blankets and pillows.
The bottles stood there for 2 days and after that, they could go to the pantry, the shelf.
So I made my own homemade fig jam from my own fig, yay!
Do you want to taste it?
