They also drew the attention of many cultures that preceded us, giving rise to beautiful myths, such as that of Narciso, a young man so in love with himself that contemplating his own image reflected on the surface of a pond, he fell into the water and drowned.

For many Hermetists or followers of the wisdom of the mythological demi-god, Hermes Trismegistus, the reflection would come to demonstrate the ancient axiom that what is above is equal to what is below.

This concept, which would be subtly shared by medieval builders, causing, in many cases, that their constructions, especially the great Gothic cathedrals, had their complement in certain stellar constellations, in the same way as the Egyptians oriented their pyramids towards the constellation Orion.

But whatever the beliefs and particular considerations of each one are, it is still an exercise in self-indulgent aesthetics, which increases the beauty of an image, increasing even more, if possible, its elegance and fantasy.
