The one that I show you in this series of photographs does not exactly have that imposing effect that painters of all times have called a 'break of glory', but in its own way, it is a sunset in Madrid, perhaps like any other, but that in my modest opinion breaks with the molds of the urban monotony, displaying a waste of fantasy, also worthy of admiration.

It is as if sometimes the sun, on its way to its customary prison at the ends of the earth, to the West, the same place where the courageous settlers who made it possible for the United States to be what it is today used to go. and where many pilgrims who want to emulate the exploits of Paulo Coelho or the actress Shirley McLaine still go, in a continuous and uninterrupted flow, had a distinctly Chaplinesque gesture and would like to raise part of the mystery that has always shrouded the footlights.

In this way, unfolding in his wake that golden mantle, whose background has also served painters of all times to represent the beatitude in the heads of the saints, allows a glimpse of unforgettable scenes, which even Breton, one of the undisputed kings Surrealism, he would consider worthy of appearing within the category of what he called Magic Art.

And within the moments that can be included in that Magical Art, it is worth highlighting that legion of metaphorical human ants, who move slowly in back and forth directions, without ever feeling foreign, as Hermann Hesse said.

Because within the connotations of that fantasy landscape that progressively reveals the sun in its retreat, anyone can have the impression, when seeing the skyscraper of the Madrid Tower, of being walking through Manhattan or, on the contrary, observing the wonderful Byzantine minaret, a little further to the left, feeling, somehow, transported to that melancholic Byzantium, which is today the great city of Istanbul.

In short: there are times when the sun, when it says goodbye to Madrid, leaves behind a venerable prodigality of fantasy.
