Experts at the University of Birmingham have launched the Bio-SPHERE project that seeks to collect information on how humans can live in future long-duration space bases on the moon and Mars.
It is not the first time that humans have been isolated to recreate the environment of a space base, but this time it will be done in the solitude and isolation of a 1,100-meter-deep mine, with the aim of simulating a lunar or Martian cave.
Experts believe that they could be the best places to establish permanent bases on the moon or Mars, a cave has the advantage of protecting humans from cosmic radiation and the impact of meteorites, but there is a doubt, the isolation will have consequences for the physical and mental health of astronauts.
That is one of the questions that they hope to answer with the Bio-SPHERE project, because taking Humans to the moon or Mars will be a great feat but everyone wants it to have a happy ending and not turn into a horror movie where once there humans end up going dangerously insane.
