This is the first time I write about the Economy. I have always tried to stay away from the economy, the crises and the problems they generate. Before, when I was younger, I didn't pay much attention to these issues, but now I understand that the economy is a fundamental part of our lives. We no longer live in a time when we only need to worry about hunting mammoths and avoiding being eaten by saber-toothed tigers. In this day and age, it is impossible not to be aware of the economic news around us, as we are all connected to and affected by it.
I spent a few days thinking about what I could write about, and I became convinced that the best thing to do was to do it from my experience, about the economic situation I am going through, as well as that of the people around me. That is why I have decided to write about the most difficult problem we Cubans are currently facing: I am referring to The Inflation. Which is an issue that not only affects us, but the whole world, and that in Cuba is having a significant impact on the people, and on the country's economy.
The economic crisis has generated a serious inflation problem that affects the current living conditions of Cubans, producing a significant increase in the price of basic products such as food, medicines and personal hygiene items. These prices have been rising steeply from one month to the next; it is like climbing a ladder with no end in sight. And this has brought as a consequence that the purchasing power of the population has decreased to the same extent, and that the cost of living in Cuba has experienced a significant increase, being this a very difficult reality to face, and one of the greatest concerns of the Cuban population today.
I am not going to make a complex analysis (because I do not have all the data) about the causes that have led to these problems, since there are many factors involved (Economic Shocks), and for sure the list is long. Instead, I will focus on describing how this situation affects my personal and family economy.
I work in the state sector and one of the big problems in this sector is the low level of pay for workers compared to the rising cost of commodities. Currently, the salary paid is not enough to cover the monthly expenses of the people who work here. This is a general problem in state-owned enterprises and has brought great dissatisfaction that negatively affects the efficiency and productivity of workers. For these reasons, many highly qualified employees have decided to leave their employment to seek better paying jobs in the private sector, which has led to a loss of talent and experience. In addition, the young workforce is not interested in working in a sector that they perceive as unattractive and with few opportunities for growth. This has a negative impact on the economy of the companies and, therefore, on the Cuban economy. And of course it also influences my economy and that of most working families.
The workers in charge of providing services are also seriously affected by the situation. Continuing with the example of my company, there are several workshops in it that offer office automation, climate and household appliance services to the population. However, many times these workshops cannot fulfill their monthly plan due to the lack of supplies and parts needed to work. All of this directly affects the population that depends on these services and also the reputation of the company.
All these problems are what I perceive in my day to day life, and they cause a somewhat alarming situation. Most Cubans are disillusioned and worn out due to these circumstances and only wish to have a personal economy that allows them to satisfy their basic needs. Over the years the Cuban people have faced different economic difficulties and crises. However, from my point of view, this is one of the most difficult situations we have faced. This also brings other problems that greatly affect the Cuban family, such as migration and family separations, but this would have to be addressed in a different publication, so as not to extend too much.
I am not an expert in economics, so I can not issue a judgment with a basis about the management of the Cuban government to try to improve this situation, I only focus on narrating my current reality. Although I must say that the Cuban state has been decentralizing the economy a little and has taken a group of measures (which should have been taken a long time ago) that in the long run could be beneficial and a palliative to this situation. One of the most significant is the creation of micro small enterprises (MYPIMES) with autonomy to self-finance and manage the necessary resources for their productive development, focused on the production of goods and services that meet the needs of society. Although they are new and face difficulties due to inflation itself, such as high prices in their products and services, I believe that as they increase in quantity they will be very beneficial for the economic development of the country and to help reduce the existing shortage of products.
But all crises bring innovation and ingenuity is one of the defining characteristics of Cubans so we have been able to devise solutions that allow us to move forward.

The good news is that this has favored the adoption of cryptocurrencies in the country:
In the midst of the financial problems we face, some people have opted to use cryptocurrencies as an investment and an alternative to generate income, thus protecting themselves from inflation and the declining value of our national currency. It is also used to buy goods and services online for products that are not available in the country, or to receive remittances from relatives abroad, as it is a safe way to receive money and avoid the economic sanctions imposed on Cuba.
I must say that Hive has been a relief in the midst of this crisis, since many times it has helped me cover my monthly expenses, even allowing me to save some money. In addition, it is an excellent alternative to generate income due to the multiple options offered by its ecosystem. So, I can say without being wrong, that the adoption of cryptocurrencies in Cuba is an example of how technology has helped Cubans to face economic and financial difficulties.
We all deserve a decent quality of life, and it is necessary to work together to achieve this goal. I think it is important that each one of us makes every effort to look for new ways to earn profits and improve our individual development, as this is part of our personal growth.
So far my publication, which has been quite a challenge, but I'm glad to have done it and in this way dabble in topics so different from what I'm used to write.
