En mi escrito de hoy voy a narrar sobre la visita a la Heladería más famosa de nuestro país, en donde nos reunimos varias amigas de la comunidad @Hivecuba a disfrutar de un día diferente.
“La Heladeria Coppelia”🍦
Coppelia is located on "La Rampa", a very busy street in the capital's neighborhood of El Vedado, the centrally located 23rd Street. Along with the ice cream parlor on one of its most famous corners, 23rd and L, there is also the Yara movie theater and the Habana Libre Hotel, two emblematic buildings in this area of Havana.
There is no Havana resident (and I believe I am not exaggerating) who has not been delighted with its offerings, and the Coppelia ice cream has always been one of the most delicious for its flavor and quality. In the heat of our city, tasting an ice cream is one of the most refreshing and pleasant things to do.
Nowadays it is not offered the variety of flavors that it had initially. In its beginnings, twenty-six different flavors were offered, along with a wide variety of combinations of dishes, which increased with the passing of time. Nowadays the diversity of flavors has declined a lot. On the day of our visit, only two flavors were offered...
But we Cubans remain faithful to Coppelia, even if we have to wait a long time in the long lines to get in, often under the strong midday and afternoon sun.
Coppelia opened to the public in June 1966, and is known as "The Cathedral of Ice Cream" in Cuba.
Its name refers to the well-known ballet, and is named after the doll Coppélia, one of the main characters of the play.
Coppelia se encuentra ubicado en “La Rampa”, una calle bastante concurrida del barrio capitalino de El Vedado, la céntrica calle 23. Junto con la heladería en una de sus esquinas más famosas, la de 23 y L están ubicados también el cine Yara, y el Hotel Habana Libre, dos edificaciones emblemáticas de esta zona habanera.
No hay habanero (y creo que no exagero) que no se haya deleitado con sus ofertas, y es que el helado Coppelia, siempre ha sido uno de los más deliciosos por su sabor y calidad. En el calor de nuestra ciudad saborear un helado es una de las cosas más refrescantes y placenteras.
En la actualidad no se ofrece la variedad de sabores que tuvo inicialmente. En sus inicios se ofertaban veintiséis sabores diferentes, junto con una amplia variedad de combinaciones de platos, que fueron incrementándose con el paso del tiempo. Actualmente la diversidad de sabores ha decaído mucho. El día de nuestra visita solo se ofertaban dos sabores…
Pero los cubanos seguimos fieles a Coppelia, aunque tengamos que esperar bastante tiempo en las largas filas que se hacen para poder entrar, muchas veces bajo el fuerte sol del mediodía y la tarde.
Coppelia se abrió al público en el mes de Junio del año 1966, y es conocida como "La Catedral del Helado" en Cuba.
Su nombre hace referencia al conocido ballet, y lleva el nombre de la muñeca Coppélia, una del protagonista de la obra.
The name of the ice cream parlor was chosen by Celia Sánchez Manduley, because it was her favorite ballet piece.
Celia Sanchez was the personal secretary of the President of Cuba at that time (Fidel Castro), and she was very involved in its project and construction. In her memory and as a token of appreciation from Cubans, in one of its gardens there is a sculpture in her honor, which was restored in 2019, when the ice cream parlor closed for a capital repair, which was carried out in view of the 500th anniversary of the founding of Havana.
In the sculpture you can see Celia's face in a butterfly flower, Cuba's national flower, and flower that she always wore in her hair, as a symbol of cubanness.
El nombre de la heladería fue escogido por Celia Sánchez Manduley, por ser esta su obra de ballet favorita.
Celia Sánchez fue la secretaria personal del Presidente de Cuba en esa época (Fidel Castro), y ella estuvo muy involucrada en su proyecto y construcción. En su memoria y como muestra de agradecimiento de los cubanos, en uno de sus jardines hay una escultura en su honor, la cual fue restaurada en el año 2019, cuando la heladería cerró para una reparación capital, que se realizó en vistas al aniversario 500 de la fundación de La Habana.
En la escultura se puede observar el rostro de Celia en una flor de mariposa, Flor nacional de Cuba, y flor que siempre llevaba en su pelo, como símbolo de cubania.
The ice cream parlor is quite wide, it goes from 23rd Street to 21st Street, it consists of three areas where ice cream is served, called courts, each court has its own access point, located in the different streets that surround the place, the main entrance is on 23rd Street and gives access to the Coppelia Tower.
The entire space is planted with a large number of trees, which favor shade and freshness. Currently after the remodeling that was done in 2019, in the areas intended for the sale and enjoyment of ice cream, larger tents were installed covering larger spaces, these tents are subject to several tensile structures which are anchored at different points of roofs and columns.
La heladería es bastante amplia, va desde la calle 23 a la calle 21, consta de tres áreas donde se sirve helado, llamadas canchas, cada cancha tiene su propio punto de acceso, ubicado en las diferentes calles que rodean el lugar, la principal entrada es por la calle 23 y da acceso a la Torre de Coppelia.
Todo el espacio está sembrado de una gran cantidad de árboles, los que favorecen la sombra y la frescura. Actualmente después de la remodelación que se hizo en el año 2019, en las áreas destinadas a la venta y al disfrute del helado, se instalaron carpas de mayor tamaño que cubren mayores espacios, estas carpas se encuentran sujetas a varias tenso estructuras las que están ancladas en diferentes puntos de techos y columnas.
The havanese Coppelia has a modern design, the main material of its structure is concrete and it was designed by the architect Mario M. Girona Fernández, who was the first Cuban architect to receive the National Architecture Award.
In the center of the enclosure, where all the accesses converge, is the Coppelia's tower, a two-story building with a circular roof, which is crowned by a dome formed by several rectangular-shaped crystals of different colors, through which the sun's rays shine, which greatly favors the illumination of the place with natural light.🌞
The entrance to the tower is through a wide granite spiral staircase, which has in its central axis a design that gives it a modern and very beautiful visual appearance.
El Coppelia habanero cuenta con un diseño moderno, el material principal de su estructura es el hormigón y fue diseñada por el arquitecto Mario M. Girona Fernández, el cual fue el primer arquitecto cubano en recibir el Premio nacional de Arquitectura.
En el centro del recinto, donde confluyen todos los accesos, se encuentra la torre de Coppelia, una edificación de dos niveles con techo de forma circular, el cual esta coronado por una cúpula formada de varios cristales de forma rectangular y diferentes colores, por donde se cuelan los rayos del sol, lo que favorece mucho la iluminación del lugar con luz natural.🌞
La entrada a la torre es mediante una amplia escalera de granito en forma de caracol, la cual tiene en su eje central un diseño que le brindan una visualidad moderna y muy bonita.
On the lower level there is a large semicircular bar, where service is faster and customers in a hurry can enjoy a delicious ice cream before continuing with their chores.
On the upper level there are three circular canchas, separated from each other by a structure of small colored glass panes veneered in wood. The exterior has large windows and transparent glass through which you can enjoy the view and the comings and goings of its visitors. The design of the windows is decorated with different drawings, which offers more color and creates a pleasant and fun atmosphere to enjoy with friends and family.
En la planta baja existe una gran barra semicircular, donde el servicio es más rápido y donde los clientes más apurados pueden deleitarse con una rica ensalada de helado antes de continuar con sus quehaceres.
En su nivel superior existen tres canchas circulares, separadas entre ellas por una estructura de pequeños cristales de colores enchapados en madera. Cuenta en su exterior con amplios ventanales y cristales transparentes por donde se puede disfrutar de la vista y de el ir y venir de sus visitantes. El diseño de los cristales está ambientado con diferentes dibujos, lo que ofrece un mayor colorido y crea un atmósfera agradable y divertida para el disfrute junto a amigos y familiares.
Our stay was very refreshing and although the quality of the ice cream was not the best, we had a lot of fun, and enjoyed the energy of everything that surrounds this emblematic place of our city. I even took my little girl with me and she had a great time. 👩👧
So we hope to repeat the visit very soon!
Nuestra estancia fue muy refrescante y aunque la calidad del helado no era la mejor, nos divertimos mucho, y disfrutamos de la energía de todo lo que rodea a ese sitio tan emblemático de nuestra ciudad. Yo hasta lleve a mi niña pequeña que estuvo muy divertida y lo paso de lo mejor. 👩👧
