I think what we really want from a relationship is the same thing we've always wanted. It differs for men and women though but even though it may seem weird, we want the same thing our parents want and their parents before them. Women want two things from their man. They want him to protect them and provide for them. They want their man to be capable of meeting their needs and they also want a man that can protect them from danger. No woman wants a man that doesn't atleast have a plan for the future. Every woman wants their man to at the very leanest, be working towards something. The modern woman will support your dreams and help you grow because deep down, she knows in the end, you will provide for her.
Also while women don't openly say they want to be protected, they show it everyday. In my country, Nigeria, once a woman starts arguing with someone, preferably a guy, she immediately calls her man to the scene. His job is to protect take her side, argue for her and fight for her if push comes to shove. As I said before, women will never say it but they want to be protected.
Men on the other hand, want the one thing that the world denies us. We want someone we can talk to. We live in a world where an emotional man is a weak man. And as a man, you should not show weakness. We try our best but deep down we know that life is hard. We cannot complain because we're expected to "man up". So every man wants his spouse to be someone he can talk to when the world becomes too heavy. We are not asking you to take the weight from us, we just want you to listen and care. Let us show the weakness we hide in front of you without being judged.
Someone might arguably say that sex is also something people want but I say that relationships with what I mentioned above can stand without sex but any relationship that with sex but lacks what I mentioned won't last.food for thought
