All things are changed, save
The faithful beauty of stars.

—Sarah Teasdale, Winter Stars

Your Stars.png

I don’t understand
And never did

Why you took me

Into the church
Of your silence,

The shadowy naves
Of your mystery,

The deepest parts
Of your liturgy…

I love to be with you―

You're my shelter,
My silent summer.

From the moment I met you
I needed to be near you,

Whether walking
Or sipping tea,

Loved to share my feelings;
Let my heart sing.

I understand your silences,
You keep me balanced;

I see my image
Reflected in your eyes.

We’re two of a kind,
A pair of sunny July’s.

But even now
In the depths of winter

Your glance is still dark
With surprise

On nights
When the weather's bitter

Your stars still gleam
In my eyes.
