If I could tell you
Why I’m so uncertain
I would gladly unburden
My heart and yours.

But it seems we have been
Down this road before
With all its twists
And turns.

Still, you take me places
Where I’d never go
Like a wrong turn
On a midnight road;

We’ll get to see the Moon,
You smile
And tsk at me
While I fume.

Sartre was right,
I’m an en-soi
But then he thought
Other people were hell…

So what does he know?
What does anyone
On the edge of oblivion
Know about anything?

As the old man said
In Place Pigalle,
I don’t know—you don’t know,
So what does anyone know
?

And that, my Love,
Is why I’m uncertain,
And I’d tell you if I could
To ease your burden
