Everything beautiful
Seems sad,
Gilded
With impermanence.
As wood
To the flame,
This yearly occurrence
Leaves me
Wordless…
I’m afraid, so afraid
Of us, of change,
Of unforeseen events,
Of winter
So desolate
Without precedent,
Only memory
Fills the emptiness.
I can't reason,
or disentangle
Fate
From feelings
Or even try
To reconcile them.
O, Love,
Be my earth—be my sky;
Someday we must die
And I want our dust
To mingle,
But for now
I need you
To be the bed of sparks
I breathe upon
And kindle.
