In solitude, you haunt yourself

lavanda-di-notte-guido-borelli.jpg

Lights from passing cars
Cross the black window.

You're gone
And I'm alone in the house.

Petals from the crab apple
Fall in the garden;

The silence unbroken
By anyone else.

On the floor of the verandah
A patch of moonlight

Trembles and weeps,
Deeply distressed;

I hear your voice
And the ghost of the curtain

Reminds me of you
In your white dress.
