I find a very interesting change sweeping over me.

It is still too early to tell what it is.

But I notice several traits.

Everytime I enjoy something (even something artsy) and then go to strive and make goals to improve - and excel - I will lose steam.

It seems like whenever I try to build my identity upon something, resistance towards engaging in that activity also builds.

Like, oh, I am a writer.

Oh I am a calligrapher.

You get the picture.

When I try to pursue my passions for an external motivation (money, recognition which ties into bolstering the self identity), my passion for those passions slowly ebbs away.

Not only that.

So does my creativity, originality and quality.

And sometimes, the shift in the motivations WHY I pursue them is sudden and subtle. From enjoyment and expression - intrinsic motivators - to externally based ones.

The key is to be aware when the shift occurs.
