I often say upon arrival at home the first meal I will have is seafood, specifically crabs but after over a week in Benin, I am yet to have crabs but I know I am not going to wait for too long for my first crab in over 15 years.
So here I share with you my first meal in Benin.
I wasn't very hungry when I arrived, we were served meals, three times during the flight from Johannesburg to Cotonou, and less than an hour before we landed in Cotonou I had a sandwich for lunch.
I didn't wait for long at the airport for my cousin to meet me, it must have been less than 30 minutes and he took me to a restaurant where we had rice and fish. The fish is made like meatballs which I enjoyed. I like hot food and when I cook in South Africa I am sometimes mindful if I am going to share with friends.
This meal is however much hotter, as you can see there was habanero pepper along with the rice, it is a norn to cook with habanero here and though I have been away for 15 years I can still stomach the hot food over here in West Africa.
Days later my cousin took me to the same restaurant and we had fish and pate rouge (oh that was divine)!
If you like fish and don't mind hot food, I bet my last cent you are going to love this meal. I emptied my plate and one of these days I am going to ask my cousin to take me there again for fish and pate rouge.
I am not sure how much it cost, I offered to pay but my cousin refused so I didn't care much about the cost.
I was filled with contentment for such a meal.
Some nice meals from my cousin's wife followed which I didn't photograph but so far I have been enjoying the food over here.
We owe it to ourselves to make Hive great
