Here is a video I took of a chef preparing the fragrant noodle dish known as Char Kway Teow which is often translated as "stir-fried rice cake strips”.

It is known as a classic throughout Malaysia and Singapore and I like many believe that the best versions are to be had on the island of Penang - but that is a heated debate which I do not want to get into here! 😉

A good use of a wok with the understanding of raising and lowering extreme temperatures is demonstrated by this chef. When I made this video I was mostly vegan so asked for my Char Kway Teow to be made without seafood. The chef threw in my egg before I knew what she was doing so this is not a vegan dish.

My Malaysian friends wrinkled their noses and thought I was a bit mad to order Char Kway Teow without seafood - because that is how it is generally served. Still we each get to decide what we want to eat right?

I always enjoy watching a wok being used well and I hope you enjoy this video for that alone. If it makes your mouth water that is also understandable! 😉

Although she tried to refuse I tipped the chef for letting me make this film!
