I also have two other books of collected short prose pieces. These include Our Children Will Inherit Our Bones (2019) and The Undoing of the Undone (2022)
Here are three poems taken from my latest release, Something Too Holy to Be Holy (2023):
I smoked a cigarette
outside the hospital
and there were butterflies.
There were thousands
of butterflies.
I took one last drag
and crushed the cigarette
under the heel of my shoe
as butterflies
poured out of the sky
and filled my eyes with tears.
I blinked them away.
The butterflies were gone
but the tears remained.
I walked back
to the ward
where you were dreaming
and I knew
you were dreaming
of something
beautiful.

She smiles
at me
and it’s a real smile
and a ray of sun
pierces the dark
like a golden arrow
an arrow
dipped in the tears
of God
and I bleed
like no one
has ever
bled.

It
rains
and
the heart does
what it does best
and
I wave
at my sad
soul
smiling
in the reflection
of an empty bottle
that took more
than it gave
and
finally
having lost more
than I'd like
to admit
I admit
you’re all
I ever
had.
