I have to admit that when visiting the "reserve" for our usual "scientific" walk, I intended to look for a "plant" native to "Argentina" ; however, my plans changed when I came across this "plant" —its branches held delicious fruits that, upon sight and taste, transported my mind back to my childhood. It is well known that foods we ate as children and taste again as adults evoke deeply significant reactions in our "brains" ; This is one of the reasons why I chose ¨Eugenia¨:  as my ¨plant¨-¨favorite¨:

The "ñangapirí":  is a "woody" plant native to "Argentina"  that grows in the "wild" ; while it certainly thrives on its own in nature, for many years it has been "cultivated"  for its edible fruit, its "medicinal"  properties, and its "ecological"  impact. The plant's leaves are used to make infusions that are excellent for treating various ailments, or to create a preparation that serves as an "insect repellent." The fruits attract native birds, which feed on them and disperse the seeds across the countryside, while the flowers attract pollinators.

As you have read, planting the "pitanga" is highly advantageous due to its many attributes and uses; furthermore, planting it is quite simple, and two methods can be used. The most practical approach is to grow it from seed. Once the fruit has been eaten, you can begin planting using the fresh seed; it can be sown directly into small pots or straight into its permanent growing location. The second method involves using "cuttings" —that is, taking a small branch and placing it in a container of water until it develops roots; this method takes longer than the first.

What is interesting about the "ñangapirí" plant—beyond its various uses and attributes—is its fruit; as the product of a native plant, it has been incorporated into the Argentine Food Code . The great thing about this fruit is that it can be consumed in various ways: eaten fresh as a dessert fruit, or used to make different types of preserves and preparations. In some cities across the country, it is used to make various juices and alcoholic beverages. A fruit that, beyond being an exquisite dessert, contains many minerals and vitamins—which, as you know, are truly vital for our bodies.

Indigenous peoples —especially the  Guaraní— in this part of the country discovered the pitanga  plant and utilized every part of it for various purposes: its wood for fuel and for crafting small utensils,  and its leaves as remedies for various ailments, while the fruit was edible. Although our ancestors were highly skilled at agriculture, from what I have read, they never cultivated this plant; instead, they made use of the "ñangapirí" in its wild state. For my ancestors, it was one of those plants that symbolized hospitality.

Some scientific facts worth mentioning are that its leaves are used to prepare infusions to treat digestive or respiratory ailments, or as diuretics. The leaves contain a resin that helps repel all kinds of insects. Another use for the leaves is in the creation of oils and vinegars. As is my custom, I would like to conclude by inviting all my nature-loving friends to join this wonderful challenge :
